Anna Marie Dominguez

October 21, 1957 - February 4, 2022

Anna Marie Dominguez died Friday, February 4, 2022, at the age of 64. Anna is survived by her daughter Veronica Gallegos of Denver. She is preceded in death by parents, Evangeline and Ernest Vargas, as well as siblings Kay Blea, Roger Flores and Michael Dominguez. A native of Denver, Anna grew up in the Five Points neighborhood. She became a North Sider in the late 1970s and remained there until her death. Music was at the center of Anna’s life. Whether she was singing old New Mexico songs and playing guitar with her grandfather, deejaying family parties or just listening to her beloved Oldies, music was core to her being. And Anna bestowed that gift of music upon Veronica, who sang before she spoke and is today a notable singer across Colorado. Anna beamed with joy in watching her daughter share her talent with the world. The Original Mert, as she was known within her inner circle, was witty and bright. If you didn’t have the honor of going on an adventure with her, you could feel as if you were there based on her ability to tell you a great story. To know Anna was to laugh with Anna. Anna was also involved in several Roman Catholic parishes around Denver. As a young woman, she was an active member of the Holy Ghost Youth Center. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and ran its snow cone booth during the summer bazaar for several years. She was also once a member of the St. Cajetan’s charismatic prayer group. She took great pride in caring for her aging parents, including her father’s battle with ALS. Anna is also survived by siblings: George (Nancy) Blea; Hope Gallegos; Tina Vargas; Vincent (Penny) Vargas; Gina (Thomas) Meraz; and Christopher (Geraldine) Vargas. She is also survived by her Aunt Grace, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and her posse of Merts.
