July 8, 1972 - November 15, 2021
Joseph Carlos Martinez was born in Denver on July 8, 1972 to Luz and Adeline Martinez. He joined a loving family with his siblings Eddie and David. Joe and his family spent many summers camping in San Luis and the mountains of Colorado. These adventures taught him a love and reverence for nature which he never forgot. Joe had a love for Science Fiction but movies especially. He enjoyed watching Star Trek, Godzilla, and Fifties sci-fi movies with his family when he was a young boy. He continued to watch these movies until his final days. These shows inspired his imagination and gave him hope for the future of mankind. As an adult Joe worked at Kmart, King Soopers and Coors Brewing but find his niche at Porter Memorial Hospital as a surgical tool technician. The day he graduated from PIMA medical was a very proud moment for him, his parents, and children. While working at Kmart he meets Kathy and later created and built a family together. They were joined by Kathy’s son Johnny, Joshua, Brooklyn, and Breanna, who became his focal point and loved them fiercely. The best part of his day was finding time to play and interact with his children. Joe would even take the time to play dolls with the girls and truly enjoy it. He was just so happy to be spending quality time with them. Joseph is also survived by his oldest brother Eddie, wife Joyce, nephews Tim, Matthew, and goddaughter Olivia. Also survived by his brother David, wife Pam, nephew Andy, niece Deverie and great niece Zoey. Joe loved all his nieces and nephews equally. Joe would play games with them when they were younger and joke around with them as they got older. He especially loved teasing Deverie and Zoey. They both are very sassy and could give it right back to him. Joe’s interaction with his children and his nieces and nephews is what made family dinners and holiday’s special. Joe had a knack for getting himself in sticky situations when he was kid. Our favorite story is when he was around five years old, he got a fork stuck in his teeth at the Spaghetti Factory. It was never determined how that happened but it puts a smile on all our faces when we share it often. We will continue to share all our fond memories of Joseph with his family especially his children. Undoubtedly the world will be a sadder and lonely place without Joseph’s presence. His passing also holds the promise of a joyful reunion in the world to come. Until then we will honor his memory often and embrace his children and parents in this time of grief. We know he will be watching over them from above with his big smile and heart.
